It is an understatement to say that Craig is a master of IT startups and development. As a highly successful entrepreneur, his main focus has always been on innovation and profitability. As part of VIM Ventures, his goal is to share his experience and knowledge and give the IT entrepreneur an opportunity for one-on-one guidance.
He has created (and continues to create) and managed several businesses while “keeping his day job”. While working full-time in finance, Craig created the Cube-a-Door, an office cubicle door, which earned him a spot in the semi-finals at the MIT $50k Entrepreneurship competition in 1998. Cube-a-Door attracted a loyal following for nearly two decades. Next, he started a postage financing business with 300 banking customers. This led him to purchase, and later sell, BankCore, an account processing software solution for banks. Craig then founded AdvisorData, a company that marketed Registered Investment Advisor information to insurance companies and broker-dealers. Craig now owns and runs MessageWatcher, a very successful Software as a Service (SaaS) provider specializing in email archiving and surveillance, “full-time”.
Craig’s “day job” career began after graduating from the University of Colorado with a BS in finance and while earning his MBA from Colorado State University. He worked for NCR for 7 years in various business units across the U.S. During this time, he controlled finances, improved efficiency and enjoyed the advantages of technology- all while maintaining profitability. Those themes continued to serve Craig when he moved back to Denver after his wife finished law school, to work for StorageTek as a financial analyst. While at StorageTek, Craig was invited to join a team which was forming a new company focused on outsourced storage and backup, ManagedStorage International (now Presilient). This was back in 2000 when the term ‘cloud computing’ was just starting to become known. From StorageTek, Craig went on to become the Chief Financial Officer at a 15-person software company. This experience led to him to meet the original team that formed Craig’s current company, MessageWatcher.
Craig’s wife and two kids keep him busy. He likes travel, video games and reading. He volunteers at his children’s school and supports groups working to help women and protect wildlife and the environment.
